Having been told about Noudel village, it was perhaps a week later before Fang decided he felt like dropping by to see his new pink friend. Their parting had been a rather sudden thing last time, Fang had barely gotten to wave his hand before Zam was off like a shot to... Who could say where? Not him anyway. But as fast as she had gone he assumed it must have been something important.
All the same, he found himself at the edge of Noudel village, having needed to ask other nearby villages about its location since the directions he had gotten were less than detailed. But she had said it was in the green east at least and that gave him a place to start. And in the end, it hadn't exactly been a hidden or well-kept secret destination.
He'd simply rode the wind here on a whim. The wind had been blowing this way and so he decided it was time to see what this Noudel village was all about. And he was rather excited to see the pink gummy girl once again. Wearing his signature flowing black robes, he held a hand fan in one hand lightly sweeping it at his face. The other hand kept tucked behind his back.
With his black robes, his appearance could have been taken as an ill omen, but his eyes were gentle and his expression friendly. Stepping forward with casual grace he intended to ask around and see if Zam was nearby. After all, he intended to deliver on the promise he had made. Or at least, he had taken it as a personal promise to himself that he would make sure that Zam got to try some freshly baked cookies.

N oudel Village wasn’t a tough place to find. A dusty path parted from the closest main road, with a hand-carved wooden sign guiding the way. It led to a small village nestled within an old, verdant forest, by a small river. A handful of buildings, both homes and barns, formed a circle around a simple central square. Around them were lovingly tended vegetable patches. Further ahead, various animals were grazing on a lush, green field. Somewhere, someone was playing a catchy tune on a banjo. Many travelers would describe Noudel Village as peaceful, quiet, even sleepy. The wooden buildings had a certain rustic charm to them. Sure, they were small and modest, but in a warm, cozy sort of way. Earthen browns and gentle reds went well with the surrounding nature. Only a handful of old-fashioned power lines and TV antennas revealed that the locals even had electricity, not to mention anything that needed it. Speaking of locals, the fashion contrast was immediately apparent. Their style consisted mostly of patched overalls and worn-out flannel shirts, with an occasional straw hat. Thus the fashionable traveler garnered his fair share of curious gazes. The older folks tried to be subtle about it, occasionally glancing up from their chores and newspapers. Meanwhile, the kids were less tactful. They turned to gawk at him as he passed, some even carefully creeping after him. For the most part though, they let the stranger have his personal space. Asking around for Zam would prove simple enough. The locals were pleasantly surprised to find that the man knew the pink girl by name. After all, bandits and other troublemakers only called her ‘The Pink Demon’ or simply a monster. ...Oh, and most of them weren’t crazy enough to seek her out. Thus the helpful farmers would eagerly point the traveler down the path to the field, saying that she was out there helping with the chores. The Majin was easy to spot among the cattle, being bright pink and all. She had swapped her usual genie outfit for sturdy overalls and a patched shirt. Next to her stood a wizened old man with bushy eyebrows that seemed to be compensating for the lack of hair. Judging by the humble attire, he was a farmer as well. He told the girl something and gestured at an old tractor with a busted tire. In turn, she nodded and effortlessly hoisted the heavy machine over her head. With the tractor in tow, the duo headed back from the field.

Noudel village really did seem to exemplify what it meant to be a rural village. The banjo caught his attention as well. The twang of the instrument was interesting to him. The music being played was not to his usual taste, but he didn't dislike it.
The place seemed so calm and relaxed that Fang was left wondering just how Zam felt growing up here. She seemed like the type of person who would not enjoy sitting still for too long. He could imagine she might work hard, but more likely spent her time playing as often as she could, and eating as many sweets as she could get her hands on. Although he wondered how often sweets were around for her to enjoy. Honey might be possible, and the things made from honey. But chocolate? He wasn't so sure about that.
He was glad to see that the place was more than happy to point him in Zam's direction. Though when he noticed the kids following him he paused to reach up a sleeve, pulled out a bag filled with soft caramel, and gave each of the kids two pieces to enjoy. Each soft caramel was about the size of a finger. He doubted it would last the kids long, but he was sure they would enjoy the little gift before he made his way in the direction he had been pointed to meet Zam.
He was happy when he finally spotted Zam walking around while lifting a tractor. Could Fang do that? Maybe, but not so easily. He was by far stronger than the average human, but... Well, he was more agile than strong by far. He could likely comfortably flip such a machine, but lifting it over his head would be quite strenuous. But then Zam was also considerably stronger than he was in terms of raw power as well.
He decided to wait till after Zam had put down the tractor to greet her. Not wanting to surprise her until she was no longer carrying heavy and potentially fragile equipment. Fragile at least in terms of them at least. He would imagine Zam could tear the tractor in half if she wanted to.

B alancing the hefty machine took a lot of concentration. That’s why Zam didn’t notice the familiar tingle approaching at first. Utterly oblivious, she marched all the way to the edge of the field. There, at the gesture of the old man, she caaarefully set the tractor down. She was treating the hunk of metal like it was made of cardboard. Finally, the girl stopped with a puzzled look. She glanced about, as if searching for something. A pair of pale tentacles peeked from her hair. With a curious wiggle, they confirmed her hunch before disappearing. She spun towards the sensation, waving excitedly. “Ooh, Fangy~! Hooooi~!” Her eyes positively twinkled with joy. It was super rare for her friends to visit. Without wasting a moment, the excitable girl turned to the old man. “Hey, Gramps! This is my friend Fangy! We fought skunks and birds together!” She gestured wildly at the wanderer. “Fangy, Gramps. Gramps, Fangy.” Her flailing arms shifted between them, pointing at each in turn. ...And once more for good measure. Chuckling lightly, the wrinkled man stepped up to the stranger. “Oh ho ho... Nice to meet you, traveler. I am Mayor Noudel, the founder of this village and Zam’s caretaker.” He offered a good-natured smile and a friendly handshake. “But ‘Gramps’ is fine. Any friend of Zam is a friend of mine.” A closer look revealed that despite his obvious age, he wasn’t any frail old geezer. His body had the lean muscle and unwavering balance of a trained martial artist. Suddenly, the stretchy girl poked her head between them. “Fangy can break wind! And control it!” She declared with cheery confidence. Yeahhh... Finding the right words had never been her strong point. In turn, the old man blinked. Slowly, his gaze turned back to the traveler. Even his wizened features couldn’t quite hide the confusion, while he tried to decipher the wild claim. “Uh, you can... do what now...?” Those wise eyes studied the stranger’s stance, expression and mannerism closely, like he was quietly measuring him.

Zam seemed as excited to see him by the time she turned to him as he had hoped she would be. Grinning back by the time she introduced him to gramps, and gramps was introduced to him.
"Hey, Pinky!" He greeted her back happily before offering a soft bow to gramps.
"Nice to meet you then, Gramps. My name is Long Fang. But you are free to call me Fang, or Fangy as Zamzam here does." He replied eagerly before Zam continued on to share some of the abilities he possessed, though phrasing it in the most awkward way possible it seemed.
But Fang simply laughed at the description. She certainly did have a way with words, and while it could make things awkward Fang was someone to take such things in stride. It simply amused him.
But he decided to give a demonstration, lifting a hand to pull a few blades of grass from the ground, showing his control over the wind, the blades of grass spun and swirled above his palm in a rather elegant and graceful display. Like the blades of grass were all performing a sort of ballet for Gramps.
"This is what she means. I can manipulate the wind. I am a cultivator exploring the dao of wind and darkness, as I like both, and feel they have much in common. Though I am still more familiar with the wind than darkness." He noted with a little shrug while he maintained his little grass dance. "But anyway, I came here because I was hoping to make cookies for Zam. She said she has never tried freshly baked cookies before, and I felt greatly saddened by this fact. So I came to fix that." He said offering another grin to the pink woman.

G ramps accepted the introduction with a polite nod. “A pleasure, Fang.” He studied the dancing blades of grass with quiet appreciation. His idle fingers rose to stroke his thin beard. “That kind of wind, hm?” A tiny spark of recognition flickered in those eyes that had seen so much. His wrinkled lips found a small, knowing smile. “You aren’t quite human, are you...?” His tone held no accusation. It was purely an observation. After all, he wasn’t one to judge a book by its cover. Or its origin. Zam watched the show, utterly mesmerized. She had been trying something similar with her own power, buuut it kept exploding... However, a mere mention of the magic word was enough to snap her out of the daze. “Cookies~!” She threw her hands in the air with a jubilant squeal. In all honesty, the scatterbrained girl had completely forgotten the promise. The excitement proved contagious, as the old man found himself laughing along. “Ho ho ho... What a kind soul you are. It’s true, I’ve never been much of a baker, sadly. Haven’t baked anything since...” His voice trailed off. Clearing his throat, he straightened his back. “Ahem. You are free to use my kitchen and whatever ingredients you need. I’m sure we can spare some flour, eggs and whatnot.” His lingering worries had already been set to rest. And if this fine young bloke turned out to be some dastardly villain, then he wanted to see what manner of plan required cookies. Glancing at the Majin, the old caretaker motioned towards the village. “Alright then. Zam, go wash up and change clothes. We’ll catch up with you.” Without wasting a beat, the girl shot off like a running rocket. “Okay~!” Only her cheery voice was left hanging in the dust cloud. She vanished into the village in a matter of seconds. Gramps started strolling after the quick girl without any rush. “I hope you weren’t planning to peep on her while she’s bathing...” He cast a glance at the traveler, before cracking another smile. “Ho, just kidding. I can tell you have good intentions. It’s all in your eyes.” He mused mysteriously. “I feel I should warn you though... Zam can be a little... intense. When she likes something, she doesn’t hesitate to show it. And when she hates something...” Again he trailed off, hesitating briefly. His shoulders heaved with a heavy sigh. “She destroys it.”

Fang blinked at the rather odd direction of the conversation, having gone from showing off his abilities and explaining his interest in the dual dao he studies before being asked about his race.
"I'm not sure what you saw or what I said to give such an indication, but no, I am not purely human. I am half demon actually." He noted casually, deciding there was no point hiding or disguising the fact, though there was never much indication about what he was, or so he thought at least. But it seemed Gramps had recognized something.
It didn't seem like the old man cared much about what he was at least. Giving Fang permission to use his kitchen, and sending Zam off to wash up and change her clothes. Fang watched the pink woman flash away before turning his attention back to Gramps.
"Peep? No. Though personally, I do think she is attractive." He noted lightly and recalled her impromptu dip in the ocean, though he'd already liked her before being given such a view anyway. Before humming as Gramps explained how she reacted to things she liked and things she hated. Fang nodded in reply.
"Yeah, I got a small sample of that when I met her. Since she called me Fangy I wanted to call her by a nickname as well, but it turns out the nickname I suggested was one she hated enough that she gave me a warning about using it for her. Of course, then she gave me a list of approved nicknames that I could call her by so I've been using them." He even wrote them all down for future reference to ensure he didn't accidentally use one that had not already been approved. Zam seemed to enjoy his company, but he didn't want to make her cross with him.
"Any chance you know why she disliked the nickname I had suggested so deeply? I hesitate to even speak it out of respect for Zam." He noted lightly, though he imagined the old man was clever enough to guess what kind of nickname Fang had suggested. Though he didn't know if the Gramps would know why she hated the nickname so much.

M ayor Noudel scratched his bushy beard thoughtfully. “Well, I have spent several decades fighting off various demons and another two raising one. I know the signs of demonic heritage when I see it.” Idly, he raised a finger and drew a small glowing circle in the air, which quickly faded. “Never seen a human so young with that level of Ki control. And I’ve seen my fair share of talented fighters.” He explained alongside the brief demonstration. When the traveler brought up a certain nickname, the old caretaker let out another hefty sigh. “Ah, called her ‘Zammy’, didn’t you?” He mused with an air of deep understanding. “She won’t let anyone call her that anymore.” Glancing at the young man, he studied his features briefly. “Either she likes you, or you heal really quickly. The last guy who called her by that nickname got his nose broken.” The grim comment was dropped all too casually, like he was just talking about the weather. The question left the old man quiet. After a moment of pensive pondering, he finally voiced his thoughts. “Hrm, it’s not really my story to tell, but...” He ran his fingers through the gray hairs. “I suspect that it might be a little more complicated than just hating that nickname...” Since the boy was being so considerate, it was only fair for him to shed some light on the mystery. After all, he knew the story better than anyone, aside from Zam herself. “A couple years back, this traveling troupe, a family of musicians, visited the village. Zam took a real shine on the eldest son, a bright boy about her age. They were pretty much inseparable. He called her by that nickname and she loved it. It was really sweet.” Reminiscing always put a fond smile on the old man’s face, but it didn’t last. “One day, they went for a walk in the forest together, but came back separately. It was the first time I saw Zam... Crying. She was absolutely heartbroken. Wouldn’t even talk to the boy anymore. Soon, the troupe continued their journey and things went back to normal.”While the old man shared one of his many, many tales, they ended up across the village and right at his doorstep. It was a humble home, a small farmhouse like any other in the village. Two stories tall, a couple of windows, small rooms... Only the mailbox identified it as his. Mayor Noudel was carved on a wooden sign, along with Zam scrawled messily next to it. The mayor stepped inside, offering a hushed whisper to his guest. “Anyway, like I said, it’s not my story to tell. If you want the real reason, you’ll have to ask Zam yourself. If she likes you, she’ll tell you. She’s not the type to hide anything. For better or worse...” He knew all too well how unabashedly... open... the pink girl was about many things. What the old man didn’t know was that Fang knew that last part as well. Intimately. Inside, the home was small, but cozy. There was a kitchen to the right and a living room to the left. A set of narrow stairs led to the second floor. And judging by the splashing sounds, the bathroom was at the back. “Make yourself at home.” The kindly host gestured broadly, letting the guest do as he pleased.

"Hm, well I suppose if you've had that much exposure to demon kind then it would be only natural you could recognize it." He mused deciding it made some sense, especially after raising a demon child, which was also interesting. It was clear the old man had a gentle heart and seemed more than willing to take in the strangest of stray children to raise as his own, between a demon, and a Majin. Although Fang still didn't really know what it meant for Zam to be a Majin. Where did they come from? What could they do? She seemed to have gummy properties, which he assumed were a natural part of her nature, but what else was common to her kind?
"Ah, as for my control, my mother taught me most of what I know, and she's attained a level of cultivation that has allowed her to obtain immortality, although she achieved it through demonic cultivation rather than human cultivation..." Her element was fire, and the cultivation method she had received from his father allowed her to cultivate demonic fire. Although cultivating demonic flames was rather risky in its own way. "Suffice it to say that what she has achieved is no small feat in the world of cultivation. And thanks to her, and perhaps my father as well I was blessed with a teacher in the form of my mother and two powerful parents that likely passed part of their potential on to me. I am quite blessed I think." He mused with a hum.
"I suggested the nickname, but she didn't hit me. She only warned me away from using the name. If that is a sign of her affection for me then I am glad I was able to form such a fast connection with her. I meant no offense to her of course, I only wished to become closer to her." He explained simply, before listening to the story, or at least the parts of it that Gramps seemed to feel comfortable sharing.
He was glad to have at least a dim light shed on the story of why Zam hated that nickname being used, and the story at least hinted at some possibilities. Lacking a complete answer, but even so, Fang was satisfied with the response he had been given in the end. It was certainly a sad story regardless of the real reason behind her feelings. It was clear that something had caused them to split, and then the boy she had grown so close to had left. And it sounded like they had never seen or sought each other out again.
"Thank you for sharing what you could of the story. It does ease my mind a little to know at least part of the reason why she seemed so against the nickname. I hope she will trust and care for me enough to share the story at some point." But he would likely leave it up to Zam if and when that would ever happen. He no longer felt the need to pursue the knowledge so doggedly. It was a secret he intended to keep to the best of his ability.
Reaching the home, he personally found the mailbox rather adorable, the way Gramps had his name carved on the sign, and then the way Zam had clearly added her own name at some point like she was trying to keep even his name company even on the sign.
When he got into the house, he noted the distant splashing and grinned to himself. It was funny that on the beach Zam seemed to hate the idea of taking bath, but here at home at the direction of her Gramps, she was seemingly content to do as he asked. And judging from the splashing sounds she might be having more fun than she might otherwise admit to. Zam was such a strange and wonderful person in Fang's mind.
"Thanks. I'm going to get right to work on making the cookies then." He said going to the kitchen, pulling a few personal ingredients out from his sleeves while making use of other raw ingredients available around the kitchen to work on making the cookies from scratch. Fang had always liked baking, though he'd mostly learned to do so from other people while traveling around. While his mother might have been great with her element of fire, she was a poor cook, made all the more amusing by the fact she was a fantastic alchemist. How could someone who made rare pills fail to cook the simplest of dishes? Fang had no idea. Maybe cooking just wasn't exciting to her, unlike alchemy which could have lethal results? That was his best guess anyway.

W hile the traveler started his noble work, the old mayor hung up his coat and sauntered into the kitchen as well. He took a seat by the table and nabbed today’s newspaper. The pages rustled softly. Though his gaze scanned the articles idly, the youth might feel a lingering sensation of being under a watchful eye... Soon, the splashing stopped and the pink girl burst into the kitchen. “All clean~!” Her proud declaration echoed across the whole house. She was wrapped in a fluffy, handwoven towel. Water dripped from her messy hair-tacles down her figure, forming puddles on the floor. Curiously she drew closer, trying to see what her friend was doing with all those ingredients. “Zam.”The sharp comment caught the scatterbrained girl’s attention. “Yeah?” She spun around to face her caretaker. “Clothes.” Blinking, she tilted her head. “What about them?” All the subtlety was going waaay over her head, so it had to be spelled out for her. “You should put some on.” She gasped at the mere suggestion. “But I’m still wet! And full of water!” As if to demonstrate the strange claim, she squeezed her bust. More water trickled from the holes lining her chest and arms. The old man heaved another sigh. “I can see that.” He rolled up the newspaper and gestured at the kitchen door. “Dry yourself in the bathroom, please. You’re getting the floor wet and making our guest uncomfortable.” Sometimes he wondered if the trickster was doing this on purpose. Maybe she was getting back at him for all the times he was busy with chores when she wanted to play. Finally, the explanation sank in for the chaotic creature. “Oooh, I see!” Turning to the baker, she flashed a cheeky grin. “Hee, so~rry~!” ...The playful chime didn’t sound very sorry. Still, she did obey and return to the bathroom.

It was kind of amusing to feel Gramp's attention consistently on his back like that. It made him curious about what the old man thought he would do exactly. Perhaps he thought that even after what he had said he would still peek at Zam.
Personally, Fang was more curious about how Zam would react if she caught him peaking. She wasn't a shy girl after all, she clearly didn't mind him, and maybe other people seeing her exposed. Frankly, he was more likely to walk into the bathroom offering to wash her back than to just peek at her. If she wasn't shy, then why should he be? He wasn't some little boy who'd never known the company of a woman before. And Zam was certainly interesting. It was kind of hard to describe the mix of feelings he had for her so far. But at the very least he felt she was a very comfortable and companionable friend to have if occasionally intense. He was sure she was someone he could rely on to join him in having a good time.
Even so, he was a little surprised when she suddenly announced to the house that she was clean by entering the kitchen only wrapped in a towel. Fang paused a minute to take in the view of her wrapped dripping form. Yep, she still had a great shape.
He honestly thought she had come to the kitchen and announced she was clean so that she could ask Fang to dry her. After all, it seemed to please her at the beach that he could basically blow dry her entire body in a second. But maybe she forgot she wanted to ask, or maybe she had forgotten he could just do that for her.
He let Gramps say his piece, having no real reason to stop him, although he didn't feel particularly uncomfortable with Zam walking around in a towel. It was more that Gramps was likely to see him looking at Zam only wrapped in a towel and be less than amused that Fang didn't avert his gaze from her or something.
He wasn't trying to get on the old man's bad side after all. He hadn't come here to try to seduce and steal Zam away from him or something or to perv on her. He'd just come hoping to hang out with Zam for a while and make some cookies.
When Zam turned to him and apologized he just gave her a nonchalant shrug. Her apology was pretty amusing too. He doubted she had come out with the intention to disturb Gramps, but seeing as it did, she clearly didn't mind taking advantage of it.
"Don't worry about the floors, I can dry them." He noted simply before flicking a hand out once Zam was away, a gust of wind rushing across the floor where Zam had walked, following the water to carry it away with an easy breeze. The wind only stopped once it reached the bathroom door, and then dissipated leaving the floors dry once more. Maybe he could have reminded Zam that he could dry her, but he supposed it was also possible that offering to do so might have annoyed Gramps, so maybe it was better this way? Fang wasn't sure.

O nce the girl left, the wise elder humbly bowed his head. “I apologize for Zam’s brazen conduct. She has trouble understanding modesty.” Sitting back down, he scratched his bushy beard. “Quite the handful, sometimes... Too many folks have gotten the wrong idea. Some of them even tried to cross the line.” He grumbled grimly, placing heavy emphasis on ‘tried’, while reaching for the newspaper again. The very idea of the adoptive grand-daughter getting tricked and used was enough to make the old martial artist’s blood boil. An astute observer could probably feel his Ki flaring briefly. He may not have been young and spry anymore, but he still had plenty of strength to whoop any would-be perverts. While leafing through the pages, Mayor Noudel glanced at the water whisked away by the wind. “Hm, quite handy.” He mused, equally surprised and pleased. Now he didn’t have to go get the mop. “If the cultivator business doesn’t pan out, you can always make a living by cleaning. Ho ho ho~” With a good-natured chuckle, he went back to his paper. He didn’t feel the need to keep an eye on the traveler anymore. The boy had proven his good intentions. Eventually, the pink girl emerged from the bathroom again. She had regained her usual Majin attire, looking like a genie from a storybook. Quietly, curiously, she snuck up to the baker. Baking cookies was all new to her. Grabbing her head, she pulled it high enough to peer over his left shoulder. Her neck merely stretched like rubber. A puff of steam rose from her head, forming a question mark before fading. Deftly, she ducked to the other side and peeked over his right shoulder next. What was he up to, hm?

"It's alright. I'm not bothered by her actions." He noted as he worked. And decided to share some thoughts. "Modesty is a product of society. Personally, I think the world has exaggerated that modesty over time. Some people can't even stand the idea of seeing a little ankle or elbow. But the body is a natural thing, we might feel attraction towards the body of another person, but is exposing a body naturally sexual? I think that actions can be, posing, flexing, and bending. But to simply walk, stand, breathe, and exist? I think not." He mused lightly. "But I suppose that I am an outlier in that sense. I have no shame about my own body. I've crafted it for the sake of cultivation and martial arts. I am confident in my strength and beauty. And I have no insecurity about displaying it." He chuckled. "I suppose Zam is also the same as me in that sense. Though it seems her sense of modesty comes from a lack of understanding rather than the knowledge and decision not to care about what other people think." He mused, simply expressing some thoughts, though Zams perspective might have been different than he believed them to be. He didn't expect Gramps to agree with much, or maybe not even any of it in the case of Zam. But he imagined that Gramps as a martial artist was proud of his own body. Even in his older age, Fang doubted the old man would have any trouble gaining attention if he sought it out.
When Zam finally made her way out to see what Fang was doing, he was in the middle of rolling the dough into balls before placing them on a metal tray. Spacing them out evenly until the tray was covered in twenty-four evenly spread balls of chocolate chip cookie dough. There was still a bowl with plenty of dough left in it to make more cookies later.
Glancing back he eyed Zam stretching her head up in such a disconcerting manner. He didn't care much for that sight, he wasn't really sure why. He knew her body was bouncy and stretchy, but he could not imagine stretching his own body in such a way.
But eventually, he took in her outfit with interest. "You certainly do seem to have a wide variety of clothes. The beach outfit you wore was nice, but this one has a rather exotic flair that I admire. You look really good." He complimented with a soft smile to her before turning to slide the tray of cookies into the oven to start baking them.
Once it was placed inside he looked back to Zam once again. "Want to try some of the cookie dough? People are often cautious about eating raw cookie dough because it can make them sick. But I've never experienced it myself. I think my constitution makes me all but immune to ordinary sickness. I have never even had a cold since I began cultivating. And while you might not be a cultivator yourself, I imagine that both your strength and unique body might make you as resilient if not more so." He suggested as he took a spoon to scoop up some of the raw dough, lifting it up to her to take a bite if she wanted to try the mix of cookie and chocolate chip. "A small sample before you try the cooked stuff in a little bit."

T he young man’s argument didn’t convince the old caretaker. Judging by the grumbling, he disagreed quietly, but vehemently. He didn’t want any bad influences around his adopted granddaughter. The girl was already naive enough to believe almost anything. If she got it into her head that running around in the nude was acceptable... He shuddered at the thought. Meanwhile, Zam beamed at the compliment. She let go of her head and it snapped back to her shoulders. “Hee, thanks~! This one’s my favorite!” Puffing her chest, she twirled around to show off the outfit. “It’s called fashun!” She declared, confidently incorrect as usual. The offer of cookie batter made the little glutton’s eyes sparkle. She nodded eagerly. “Nyeh hee, I can’t get sick either~! Cuz I’m a Majin!” It was one of the many benefits to her mystical anatomy. Without wasting a beat, she chomped the spoonful. Grasping her cheeks, she savored the taste. “Yummy~!” As far as she was concerned, they didn’t need to put the cookies in the oven at all. She could eat all of them like this~! However, while distracted by the delicious batter, the Majin completely missed the danger slowly creeping up to her from behind. A voice as frigid as the grave froze the friendly atmosphere. “What’s this about a beach outfit? I don’t remember buying you one of those...” She flinched. Her eyes went wide in immediate panic. “Eep.” Beads of cold sweat magically manifested on her brow. For a short, old man, Mayor Noudel sure knew how to loom menacingly. It felt like he had the shadow of a giant. ...Well, maybe that part was just imagination running wild. Nevertheless, he cornered the culprit effortlessly. “Did you steal clothes again?” Busted! Zam desperately avoided eye-contact, suddenly finding all the distant corners of the room oh so very interesting. “Nnnnooo...?” She twiddled her fingers, as if trying to knit together something believable. “More liiike... Uh... Borrowed them? Without telling anyone... Oooor returning them...” Buuut she was far too honest to lie. Without hesitation, without mercy, the old man brandished the one weapon even the nigh-invincible Majin dreaded... The rolled up newspaper of shame! Whap. “That’s stealing! And stealing is wrong. How many times do I need to tell you?” And another whap for good measure. He wasn’t angry, no... Just disappointed. The pink girl tried to shield her head, but nothing protected against emotional damage. “But whyyy? Nobody was using them!” ...Whap. She retreated behind her friend and poked him. “Come on, back me up...” Yup, she was shamelessly dragging him into this too.

Somehow the way she explained her outfit made him squint a little. He could not quite put his finger on what was wrong with what she said. It felt incorrect somehow but sounded more or less right. He assumed what she said, and figured she just said it in a somewhat funny way though the original meaning was still intended with no real special emphasis. He wasn't sure he could have asked her to explain, so he didn't bother, at least not this time.
He was happy she seemed to enjoy the cookie dough, enough that she looked like the was ready to consume the entirety of the remaining dough that was not already cooking in the oven. He would not mind letting her eat more, but he was confident that the ones warming in the oven would be even better than the raw dough. He could not emphasize enough how much he appreciated the warm, soft, gooey texture of fresh hot baked cookies, though he did enjoy eating the dough raw at least occasionally too. The heat and softness of freshly baked cookies made a large difference in his mind.
He blinked when it seemed Zam was suddenly in a bit of trouble. Being swatted with a newspaper when it became apparent she had stolen the outfit that she wore to the beach the other day.
Fang was less concerned that she had taken the clothes, than amazed that whoever she had taken them from had a nice sense of style, and that they had a shape near enough to Zam that she could comfortably wear them herself.
And then she went and dragged him into things. Frankly, he wasn't really much better than she was when it came to such things, if he needed clothes he would have taken some he passed by. But he had more sense, and he enjoyed the clothes he normally wore more than whatever anyone else was wearing at the time anyway. So the reason he didn't steal clothes was that he didn't feel the need to, and had little desire to do so rather than any moral code.
But his friend wanted some support from him, so he sighed before nodding and looking at Gramps. "The damage has already been done, and she has taken the clothes. At this point what would you like her to do? I'm sure you would like Zam to be remorseful about her actions, but I think ultimately she's only going to be sorry about upsetting you more than the act itself. So I think it would be more constructive if we decide on a course of action to repent, rather than focus on some form of punishment." He suggested. "So what would make this situation right? Should Zam go speak with the person she took the clothes from and pay them back somehow? Or perhaps you or I could apologize in her stead?" He suggested, figuring that while he did not want to shame Zam (even if she was a little reckless) that if Gramps wanted to teach her a lesson then it was best to lead by example. And he figured that if Gramps made the apology for her that it would be worse than if she apologized herself. Seeing someone you love shame themselves for you would hit just as hard if not harder than the newspaper he had been smacking her with emotionally.
Knowing that someone you loved was taking your lashes for you could hurt more than being hit yourself. Fang had rarely experienced such a thing himself. But the few times he had, those memories stuck especially hard with him.
"But whatever you decide, the cookies are going to be done soon." He said gesturing to the stove. "So how about we decide on a course of action a little later? After we've had some milk and cookies." He suggested, figuring that everyone would feel a little better after they had some time to relax with a tasty snack. And maybe whatever Gramps decided to do he would be more lenient when he was in a better mood. Fang had done what he could to resolve the situation and help Zam. There was no way to escape the old man's wrath, but he figured he could at least help lessen the nature of it and get it over with quickly. When you could not block you may still be able to deflect and lessen the damage you take with a well-executed parry. An attack that could not be stopped may at least be redirected or slightly altered.
